French-Canadian Choreographer Brings her Company to Cleveland for Its Ohio Debut

Fri 11/9 @ 7:30PM

French-Canadian choreographer Hélène Simoneau’s work, her bio, tells us, is about “exploring themes of intimacy, agency, identity, sexuality, and power.”  She’s Guggenheim fellow who has created work for a range of dance companies, a field normally dominated by men, including her own company, Hélène Simoneau Danse

That company will be making its Ohio debut this week when it comes to Playhouse Square’s Mimi Ohio Theatre under the auspices of DANCECleveland, performing the piece Delicate Power, which asks “What does power look like without the need for dominance?” But Simoneau has been in the area before: she took part in the National Center for Choreography at the University of Akron’s Dancing Lab program in 2017 and took part in a. creativity residency in March 2024 as part of their 21st Century Dance Practices program.
