Five-Woman Brass Ensemble Featured in Rocky River Chamber Music Society Concert

Mon 11/11 @ 7:30PM

Seraph Brass, founded by classical trumpet player Mary Elizabeth Bowden just over a decade ago, features an all-woman lineup of musicians who break one of the stereotypes of classical music: that women don’t play brass instruments. Together with trumpet player Raquel Samayoa, horn player Layan Atieh, trombonist Lauren Casey-

and tuba player Robyn Black as core artists (they frequently expand the lineup with guest musicians), she’s forged a groundbreaking path, spotlighting marginalized groups in eclectic programming that embraces both repertoire standards with original transcriptions and contemporary composers, frequently with commissioned pieces.

When the Rocky River Chamber Music Society presents the group at the West Shore Unitarian Universalist Church, they’ll perform a similarly eclectic concert with works by Edvard Grieg, Giuseppe Verdi, Kevin Day, Jeff Scott, Franz Liszt, Kevin McKee, Grigoras Dinicu, Rene Orth, Reena Esmail, Catherine McMichael and Anthony DiLorenzo

As usual, the concert is free, although donations are gratefully accepted. It will also be livestreamed of RRCMS’s website.
