Danjo Jazz Orchestra Plays Classic Jazz for Free at Jilly’s Music Room

Thu 11/21 @ 7PM

Bass guitarist Dan Agnotti put together the Danjo Jazz Orchestra in 2010 when he returned home to Kent after a music career in Los Angeles where he began collecting the big-band charts that make up the basis of Danjo’s repertoire. Agnotti began to collect musicians as well, often providing students with their first professional opportunity, mixing them with seasoned musicians to create an ensemble with a wide range of age and experience.  Agnotti retired as the band’s leader in 2019, passing the reins to bass trombone player/ composer/arranger Andrew Wiegerski, a recent University of Akron grad. The following year, it released an EP, titled simply Danjo, featuring its renditions of pieces by the Buddy Rich Big Band, the Count Basie Orchestra and Maynard Ferguson, just a small part of its extensive repertoire.

In 2019, Danjo began its monthly residency at Jilly’s Music Room in Akron’s Northside neighborhood, where it squeezes onstage to play some lively music patrons can enjoy while partaking of Jilly’s menu of drinks and food. Admission is free.
