Cuban Pianist Chuchito Valdés Returns for Intimate Show at Kawai Piano Gallery

Fri 11/8 @ 7:30PM

Cuban pianist Chuchito Valdes is no stranger to Cleveland. He’s performed at Nighttown and at the Lakeland Jazz Fest; he was last in Cleveland at Market Garden Brewery in August. He’s returning to town to perform in a slightly different setting: the intimate Kawai Piano Gallery at Beachwood’s Pinecrest

Music tends to run in families, and Chuchito is the son of Chucho Valdés and grandson of Bebo Valdés, both noted pianists and band leaders: his aunt and uncles were musicians as well. He brings that legacy as he intertwines jazz with the distinctive rhythms of the Caribbean especially Cuban genres such as son, danzon, Cuban timba and guaguanco, creating a sound redolent of the infectious, dance-inducing sounds of tropical climates. He recorded and toured with Cuba’s Irakere, and led the band for two years, and he’s performed at festivals and concert halls around the world. He’s currently based in Mexico.

While the piano gallery doesn’t serve food or drink, Pinecrest is overflowing with establishments to enjoy before or after the concert. Get tickets here.
