Cleveland Orchestra Concludes Its Beethoven Concerto Cycle

Fri 11/15 @ 7:30PM

Sat 11/16 @ 8PM

Sun 11/17 @ 3PM

The Cleveland Orchestra concludes its Beethoven Piano Concerto Cycle this week, and it’s not gone anything like it was planned. For one thing, TCO music director Franz Welser-Möst, who was scheduled to conduct, dropped out due to medical treatment and was replace for all three programs by Cleveland Orchestra Associate Conductor Daniel Reith. That was followed by the Igor Levit, the featured soloist for all three programs, withdrawing and being replaced by a number of other pianists.

For the concluding program, which includes the Piano Concert No. 1 and Piano Concerto No. 5, “Emperor,” 20-year-old South Korean pianist Yunchan Lim, the youngest ever winner of the Van Cliburn International Piano Concerto in 2022, will be making his Cleveland Orchestra debut on the Emperor Concerto. The No. 1 concerto will be performed Lim’s mentor and current teacher Minsoo Sohn.
