Fri 11/29-Sun 1/12
The Cleveland History Center at the Western Reserve Historical Society is about to unleash some holiday magic this weekend when it opens Winter Toyland, which it describes as a “full holiday experience.”
Kids will love to see the featured exhibit, HollyDays, miniature winter village created by Dennis Hoert that started with 12 buildings and has 350. It also includes nine trains and a mini Macy’s parade, and the whole exhibit everything has synched holiday music and lights. There’s also a Lego village — no, it’s not those ugly, blocky Lego-like row homes sprouting all over the city — that recreates scene from the 1983 movie A Christmas Story, which Cleveland has adopted because some of the exteriors were filmed here, along with some props from the film.
You can also ride the Euclid Beach Park Grand Carousel and take in the holiday decorations in the historic Hay-McKinney Mansion and displays of toys, cooking and kids’ clothing to reflect on the joys of childhood.
All the regular exhibits are open too including Wild Horses: 60 Years of Ford’s Mustang; All Dolled Up: 200 Years of Dolls and Miniatures; and History in Their Hands: Black Photographers in Cleveland, Ohio, 1968-Present. It’s all included with regular admission.
