Brazilian-born, New York-based guitarist João Luiz is also a composer and an educator who is director of chamber music and head of guitar studies at CUNY Hunter College. He’s performed across North and South America, Europe and Asia, and recorded a flock of CDs as a solo artist, or in duos, trios and quartets, performing classical, world and Brazilian music. And he’s twice been nominated for a Grammy.
This week, he’ll be giving his first solo concert as a guest of the Cleveland Classical Guitar Society at the Maltz Performing Arts Center. The program, titled Brazil Meets Cuba, will feature world premier works by three noted contemporary composers Leo Brouwer, Sérgio Assad, and Ronaldo Miranda. Get tickets here.
