Thu 11/14-Sun 11/17
The next program presented by Apollo’s Fire, Cleveland’s baroque chamber orchestra, is titled “Hope and Solitude,” something a lot of us are craving right about now.
The ensemble’s assistant artistic director and concertmaster Alan Choo will lead the evenings, which feature countertenor Reginald Mobley, who will perform works by J.S. Bach and Henry Purcell, as well as spirituals “Wayfaring Stranger” and “My Lord, What a Morning,” with themes of longing and renewal. Oboist Debra Nagy (who is also the founder/artistic director of Cleveland’s Les Delices chamber orchestra) will be featured on Bach’s Cantata no. 82, Ich habe genug.
The orchestra will also perform “lively” dances by baroque-era composers Purcell, John Dowland and John Eccles.
They’ll perform at Akron’s First United Methodist Church on Thursday November 14; at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Cleveland Heights on Friday November 15 and Saturday November 16; and at Rocky River Presbyterian Church on Sunday November 17. The Friday night performance will be followed by an Afterglow reception, who the audience can meet the musicians and enjoy a snack.
