Tuesday Musical Kicks Off Season With Tony Bennett Tribute

Tue 10/22 @ 7:30PM

Akron’s Tuesday Musical kicks off its 2024-25 season with a concert that’s most pop-leaning than its typical fare.

It will center on the Carnegie Hall Big Band and vocalist/pianist Michael Feinstein, a noted specialist in the Great American Songbook, performing music associated with 20th-century traditional pop vocalist Tony Bennett who died last year at the age of 96. The tribute, called Because of You, will include songs such as “The Best Is Yet to Come,” “I Get a Kick Out of You,” “Stranger in Paradise” and “I Left My Heart in San Francisco,” and is augmented with storytelling and a multimedia presentation.

In northeast Ohio it will also be augmented with musicians from this area including trumpet players Dave Banks and Jack Schantz; reed players Tom Reed, George Shernit and Brad Wagner; trombonists Brett Balika, Paul Ferguson, Paul Hungerford and Mark Mauldin; and guitarist Jeremy Poparad.
