Liturgical jazz ensemble Theodicy Jazz Collection got its start at Oberlin Conservatory in 2006 before moving on to serve a residency at the Yale Institute of Sacred Music from 2008-2012. It’s designed and performed services for churches across the country and in England, with music that draws on multiple musical traditions including jazz, gospel and global music from African and Latin America. The ensemble has also lectured and taught in high schools and colleges, and performed at conferences and its individual members have performed and recorded with noted jazz, soul and pop musicians and led ensembles of their own.
When they return to northeast Ohio, they’ll be at Trinity Cathedral in downtown Cleveland on Friday October 11 and at First Church in Oberlin on Saturday October 12. Admission is free.
