Spend a Day Learning About Tiny Pet Rodents at Gerbil Show in North Olmsted

Sat 10/26 @ 11AM-5PM

You may be familiar with dog shows, such as the widely publicized Westminster Dog show, or cat shows, such as the one that was just at the I-X Center for a weekend earlier this month. But we doubt you’re aware that there is also a gerbil show.

But the American Gerbil Society’s Midwest show will be in town this weekend, drawing gerbil lovers from across the U.S. and Canada. And they tell us, “You’ve never seen anything quite like a gerbil show!” True. We’ve even been to Skunkfest, but we’ve never seen a gerbil show.

As at cat and dog shows, gerbils — tiny rodents weighing just a few ounces — will be judged for color and temperature, whatever that is in a gerbil. The finalists will win awards for Best in Show, Best Opposite Sex, and Best Opposite Coat. There are also agility contests and  — we swear this is true — toilet paper chewing competitions.

Taking place at the Hotel RL, 25070 Country Club Blvd, North Olmsted, the event is open to the public. Admission is fee although donations are happily accepted.
