Peruvian Musician Performs Dvořák’s New World Symphony on Solo Guitar

Sat 10/26 @ 7:30PM

Peruvian-born classical guitarist and composer Jorge Caballero has an extensive repertoire, spanning the Renaissance to contemporary guitar music. He’s also known for transcribing and performing pieces originally written for piano or orchestra by composers such as Modest Mussorgsky, Claude Debussy, Alban Berg and Antonin Dvořák.

When he comes to Cleveland for a performance sponsored by the Cleveland Classical Guitar Society, he’ll be performing Dvořák’s complete 1893 Symphony No. 9 (“From the New World”) on guitar. And as if that weren’t enough, he’ll also play two works based on Black spirituals: Guitarra: Suite for Classical Guitar by Ulysses Kay and the world premiere of a new piece called Poor Mourner’s Got a Home at Last” by Thomas Flippin, commissioned by the Cleveland Classical Guitar Society.

The concert takes place at the Maltz Performing Arts Center. Get tickets here.
