Northeast Ohio Bluegrass Artists Raise Money for North Carolina Hurricane Victims

Mon 10/28 @ 7PM

It must be all the horrific photos of towns in western North Carolina swept off the map by flooding, but benefits for the victims of Hurricane Helen abound (and yes, FEMA — the “government” — IS on the ground, but all help is welcome).

NEO Bluegrass for Appalachia featuring David Mayfield & friends brings together a bunch of local country/bluegrass-style bands to perform at the Beachland Tavern. Mayfield is known for his bands the David Mayfield Parade and the David Bluegrass Parade and playing a variety of styles, some more bluegrass-y than others. Along with his sister Jessica Lea Mayfield, who performed at the Beachland the previous week (October 24), he grew up playing in his family bluegrass band before spreading his wings and acquiring a national reputation both as a sideman and bandleader.

Eclectic guitarist/vocalist/songwriter Waylon Fingers and friends will kick things off at 7pmm followed by Cuyahoga Current @ 7:30; roots music flat picker Hunter Skeens and the Forerunners at 8; lively bluegrass sextet Sugar Mules at 8:30; Americana/country/bluegrass ensemble Lea Marra and the River Boys at 9:15; and finally Mayfield and friends at 10pm.

Suggested donation is $15, to go to Hospitality House of Northwest North Carolina, a housing agency providing services in seven rural counties for people facing homelessness, as many in the region now are.
