One of the central elements of the Mexican Day of the Dead celebration is the ofrenda: an altar containing objects meaningful in the creators live, usually having a connection to ancestors who have passed on.
If this sparks your creativity, you can take part in an Altar Crafting event taking place in Little Italy. First stop at Moonstruck Vintage on Mayfield Road to get a bag of materials, such as small boxes, paper pockets, matchboxes, religious, vintage and craft material, and an altar piece; you can also bring your personal mementos. Then head over to Snakes and Acey’s on Murray Hill Road to work on putting it together. It’s only about a two-block walk and you can stop on the way at Presti’s for some pastry! Snakes and Acey’s will have glue, paint, pens, paper, scissors and other supplies available.
Materials are included in the ticket price. Get tickets here.
