Local Folk/Jazz/Pop Ensemble Long Road Hosts Live Concert/Recording Session

Sat 10/26 @ 6PM

Back about 15 years ago, a quintet called Long Road, featuring some seasoned area musicians, was playing around the area. They offered an eclectic repertoire that reached back to the ’60s folk revival (which some of them were around for), when young people were rediscovering genres such as blues, bluegrass, traditional folk and other indigenous American musical forms. They tossed some psychedelic rock, rockabilly, pop and jazz into their huge repertoire, acquiring local fans until the petered out around the middle of the last decade.

One of the park plugs of that group, guitarist/vocalist David Budin, recently  revived the concept with New Long Road. It includes one of the other former members, Celtic harpist/guitarist/vocalist/banjo player Celia Hollander, plus three new recruits, another 50-year veteran of the area music scene, vocalist Robin Stratton; cellists Julie Myers King; and flutist Linda White. Their current repertoire includes rearrangements of some favorite songs of the old Long Road, as well as new songs, some of Budin’s originals, with Budin’s humorous asides and background stories to set up songs.

Now the group is doing a special recording session, a live session with an audience at the rural SUMA Recording outside Painesville in Lake County, now owned by seasoned Cleveland producer Michael Seifert. Tickets to the event include the chance to be part of the audience, a copy of the CD when it comes out, digital access to downloads of outtakes from the session not included on the CD, a concert-only classical flute and cello duet that also won’t be on the CD, a copy of the previous Long Road’s 2016 CD, a short tour of the studio, and post-concert dessert and reception with the band and studio personnel. There are special packages with other perks. Go here for tickets.
