Big Creek are tributary of the Cuyahoga River, is at the heart of the Big Creek Watershed, which drains almost 38 square mile in the cities of Cleveland, Brooklyn, Linndale, Parma, Parma Heights, Brook Park, Middleburg Heights and North Royalton. The organization Big Creek Connects looks at ways to address the extreme urbanization of this watershed.
Learn more about the efforts to do so when the organization hosts a program at Windows on the World at the Cleveland Metroparks Zoo to update people on what’s going on and share information about the area’s history and plans for its future. Archaeologist Dr. Roy Larick will talk about the connections between the area’s past and its future.
“Centuries ago forest variants emerged in the Big Creek watershed, shaped by the land and its climate,” they say. “Despite a century of urban disturbance, these subtly different ecosystems continue to fight for survival and reproduce themselves in place. What can they tell us about what grows best and will flourish long-term?”
If you’re into looking at ways that the urban environment can be more eco-friendly, this program is for you. Register here. Note: this comes up as a volunteer form but filling it out doesn’t mean you are committing to volunteer.
