LatinUs Theater Launches Its First Hispanic Film Festival

Fri 10/11 @ 7-10:30PM

Sat 10/12 @ 1PM-10:30PM

Sun 10/13@ 1-6:30PM

The LatinUs theater ensemble, based at the Pivot Center, was formed just a little over five years ago, bringing a whole new thing to the northeast Ohio theater scene: scripts by Hispanic playwrights of multiple generations, performed in Spanish, reflecting the area’s growing Latino community.

Now it’s bringing something else new to the area: the first Latino International Film Festival. Over three nights, it will show a variety of films from around the world, reflecting diverse Hispanic cultures, stories and perspectives, made by both established and young filmmakers, both full-length features and shorts.  Some are serious, dealing with issues such as drug addiction, economic challenges and gender identity. Others, well, not so much, like the short film, Frenchie Revolution, whose plot summary says, “A man is investigating the disappearance of a ham sandwich in his home. The main suspect is his pet, a female French bulldog.”

In addition, like many of the area’s other film festivals, it will augment the screenings with panel discussions and special events, all taking place at its Black Box theater at the Pivot Center.

Go here for more information and to RSVP by October 10.
