Lakeland Gallery’s Popular Skull-Based Art Show Returns to a New Venue in Akron

Thu 10/24 @ 5-8PM

One of the big shows that Mary Urbas, director of the Gallery at Lakeland Community College, did at the gallery was her Skull and Skeleton show in the fall around Halloween. When she was laid off from Lakeland this summer, that major gallery space went dark, so she’s been searching out alternative spaces for her the popular shows. She’s now put together a stripped-down version this year of that Halloween show called “Skulls & Bones,” taking place at the gallery at the University of Akron Art School and co-curated gallery director Arnold Tunstall. It only features the work of 20 local and regional artists instead of the usual 100+, meaning less work for her, but augmenting it is a show of skull art in the atrium adjacent to the gallery, put together by AU art students.

The show kicks off with a costume party reception on Thursday October 24 from 5-8pm. It’s free and open to all.
