The fine-dining EDWINS Restaurant in Shaker Square is the flagship of what’s now a constellation of businesses and support organizations to reintegrate people returning from prison, train them in marketable skills and give them tool to succeed. It’s now going into its second decade of placing former felons in sustainable jobs that give them a path forward and not back to prison.
One of its fundraisers is its annual Run for Reentry, which you can take part in as a casual jaunt or a serious run. The one-mile Fun Run or Walk is a short stroll on neighborhood sidewalks; it’s stroller and family-friendly. The 5K GRIND Road and Trail Run challenges your athletic abilities with a “a battle Between you and the terrain”: off-road course through water crossings, hilly turf and steep trails, beginning and ending at Shaker Square.
