Afro-Colombian cellist/vocalist Carolina Borja and bassoonist/CSU faculty member Arleigh Savage formed indie global music ensemble Sororii in 2021, with a mission to promote women’s voices from diverse cultures in music. They released an album called Esperanza in 2022, featuring eight haunting, mostly instrumental, compositions, with the intimate, subtle sounds of the two lead instruments setting the tone and a group of women friends contributing flugelhorn, piano and percussion. They say they “intend this work to be a body of work that models new leadership for this turbulent times of societal fragmentation. The spirit of the album evocates ancestry, female voices, and music expressions from around the world.”
They’ll be performing in the third floor fine arts department of the downtown branch of the Cleveland Public Library as part of its Music at Main series. It’s free and open to all.
