Janis Siegel has been earning a living from her agile, spirited vocals for five decades. She became part of the most successful lineup of the vocalese quartet Manhattan Transfer in 1973. With them, she’s recorded over two dozen albums and won 10 Grammys, and she remained with the group until their final concert in December 2023.
But that’s not all she’s done. The now 72-year-old vocalist has been part of a couple of other vocal projects, Sing Sing Sing with Jon Hendricks, Dianne Reeves and Bobby McFerrin, and McFerrin’s Voicestra. She’s also more than a dozen solo albums since 1982, and provided guest vocals on two dozen more. Her new album is called The Colors of my Life — A Cy Coleman Songbook, a partnership with pianist Yaron Gershovsky, who was the long-time music director for Manhattan Transfer.
She’s back in Cleveland, along with Gershovsky, for a pair of shows at Market Garden Brewery Ohio City Room. Full bar and dinner menu are available. Get tickets here.
