Fri 10/18 @ 5-9PM
It’s time for another Third Friday at 78th Street Studios and as usual, there’s a lot to experience, old and new. Among the new is a solo show at Gallery 205 called Chaos Leprechaun Wizard by a neo-hippie artist who calls himself Guice Man. If you’ve visited his space at the Tower Press Building during one of the open houses there, you know that his work is colorful, spacy and will take you to, in his own words, “higher levels of grooviness.” And at Understory, a two-handed show called Haven opens featuring sculptures by of Eric Tuck-Macalla and David Verba’s paintings.
Ongoing shows to catch include Sarah Curry’s Common Threads at HEDGE Gallery, which closes after this weekend, and Digitalism at Context Gallery, featuring work by three artists — Jenniffer Omaitz, Andrew Reach and Meagan Smith — who incorporate digital imagining in their processes to create abstract geometric works.
Northcoast Promotions will have more than 50 guest vendors and makers in events spaces — a great opportunity to start some holiday shopping. If you’re doing that, you’ll want to go downstairs to the RAMP level and go all the way back to the south end to visit the new shops/artist spaces that opened about a year ago, and stop up on the first floor at Variegate in Susie Frazier’s former space where artist Lindsey Krevicki has designed a lot of cool little stuff to jazz up your house and your life.
As usual, Local West will have food on hand and BARneo down on the Ramp level will be serving drinks. There’ll be musicians playing around the building including singer/songwriter/guitarist Colin John, Emanant Origins playing ambient music and DJ Sunrise spinning tunes.
The event is free and open to all, including well-behaved dogs.
