Like the Shootouts, another northeast Ohio band that’s making national waves right now, Country Honk were inspired by classic country music — not the “case of ice-cold beer in the back of my pickup truck” party crap on the radio now, but the lived-in music of artists such as Merle Haggard, Willie Nelson, Waylon Jennings and Hank Williams. It features four seasoned area musicians — Anthony Papaleo, Tom Prebish, Fred Perez-Stable and Thor Platter — with a large repertoire of such country tunes, as well as tunes by country-adjacent artists (Neil Young, the Eagles) and a whole heap of their own originals in the classic/honkytonk country and country rock vein.
They’ll be giving fans a way to take their music home when they hold their vinyl release show at the Beachland Tavern this weekend, joined by yet another area ensemble inspired by honky tonk/country roots, Cory Grinder & the Playboy Scouts. The show is free, a great opportunity to check out some terrific area bands. Go here to RSVP.
