Cleveland Botanical Garden Panel Looks at Healing Through Nature

Thu 10/10 @ 6PM

It’s no secret that nature is a powerful healer. That’s the subject of author Julia Holz’s new book The Connection Cure: The Prescriptive Power of Movement, Nature, Art, Service, and Belonging.

In it she talks about a concept called “social prescribing” where instead of pharmaceuticals and medical procedures, people with health conditions address a patient’s non-clinical needs for social and emotional connections, offering things such as nature walks, social clubs and volunteering to address such condition as anxiety, depression, loneliness another chronic conditions.

Holz will be part of a panel discussion called “Healing through Nature,” addressing social prescribing, taking place at the Cleveland Botanical Garden. She’ll be joined by Dr. Ardeshir Hashmi, section chief at the Cleveland Clinic’s Center for Geriatric Medicine, Holden Forest & Garden’s Director of Guest Experience Beth Kelly.
