City Club and CPL Host Forum on the Role of Libraries in Democracies

Mon 10/14 @ 11:30AM

Libraries and Democracy, the topic of an upcoming City Club forum, is a fraught subject these says, with a surge of censorship attempts, mostly based on bigotry and the attempt to erase people the censor doesn’t approve of.

In this forum, hosted in partnership with the Cleveland Public Library marking Indigenous Peoples’ Day, the new American Library Association President Cindy Hohl, a member of Nebraska’s Santee Sioux Nation, will share what she sees as the foundation of libraries: intellectual freedom, literacy, learning, and leadership. The City Club’s Director of Programming Cynthia Connolly will moderate the discussion which will look at the role libraries play in fueling diversity and community engagement. “We stand united in our mission to ensure equal access to information for all,” she says.

The forum, which takes place at the Cleveland Public Library’s downtown auditorium, is free, but you should register is required. Go here.
