Blank Canvas’s “Little Shop of Horrors” Will Include a “Splatter Zone”

Fri 10/18-Sat 11/2

The musical Little Shop of Horrors, which originally premiered off-Broadway in 1982, is the perfect Halloween show, with its comedic horror theme about a florist who raises a flesh-eating plant and its screwball love story. Its appealing score includes songs that draw on rock & roll and Motown, and some, like “Suddenly Seymour” and “Somewhere That’s Green,” have become classics. Composer Alan Menken and lyricist Howard Ashman are no slouches; both are known for their work on blockbuster Disney musicals such as Aladdin, Beauty and the Beast and The Little Mermaid. But Little Shop of Horrors remains their offbeat, oft-performed little treasure.

It’s also the perfect script for Blank Canvas Theatre which is presenting it this month. Blank Canvas is known for its skill at putting on over-the-top productions filled with theatrical mayhem. And they’re warning “This show will have a splatter zone!”
