Waterloo Arts District Struts Its Stuff During Annual Waterloo Arts Fest

Sat 9/14 @ noon-7PM

The annual Waterloo Arts Fest in North Collinwood’s Waterloo Arts District, now in its 24th year, is more neighborhood-oriented than many of the summer’s arts fests and showcases what a burgeoning area this has become for the arts.  A large percentage of the vendors and groups taking part come from the immediate area — some from right on the street which is packed with art-related businesses.

In addition to nearly 100 artists and makers selling the handmade wares, you’ll find information booths from various neighborhood organizations, city departments and nonprofits, craft tents with demos and hands-on activities, a children’s play area, and lots of music on multiple stages — seven to be exact. You can check out bands and musicians in a dizzying area of genres, young and old, veterans and new on the scene, including Da Land Brass Band’s high-energy, New Orleans-influenced street music to the spoken word-with-music Tongue in Groove featuring Northeast Ohio’s premiere performance poet Ray McNeice, oowerful young vocalist/guitarist/songwriter Clare Feorene, noisy indie duo Messmaker, stalwart folk artist Charlie Mosbrook, 50-year scene veteran Mary Martin and the Tuna Band, buzzy up-and-comers Frida & the Mann, and many, many more. There’s even a klezmer group (The Tischler Klezmer Orchestra) and a “baroque folk” program exploring the musical history of the Scottish Isles from Cleveland early music ensemble Les Delices. Hear an old favorite or discover someone new.

The festival is free and very family-friendly. Go here for more info, a complete schedule of performances, list of vendors/organizations participating and parking information.
