Years ago, artist Dana Depew owned Asterisk Gallery on Professor Avenue in Tremont, a two-level space that showed a variety of eye-opening shows and showcased his own work — such as his chenille wall hangings and his unique chandeliers (which you can still see at places such as 78th Street Studios).
A few years back he ditched the city for the country, purchasing an abandoned farm in rural Lorain county, where he raises vegetables and extraordinary flowers, and hangs out with chickens and a bunch of “feral” cats. Anyone who follows him on social media gets a regular dose of images of the beautiful space he’s created, the adorable cats and the dahlia gardens where you can “pick your own.” He also sells the products of the farm at events such as the Tremont Arts and Cultural Festival, the Waterloo Arts Fest and the weekly BAYarts farmers’ markets.
Now his farm will be open to tour as part of the Garden Conservancy Open Days program, a nonprofit devoted to saving gardens for educational and inspirational purposes. You can get tickets online here.
