This week, the Valley Art Center will open a new exhibit called In Touch: A Hands-On Exhibition, which it describes as “one-of-a-kind” and indeed, it’s not your typical show where you walk around and admire the work. It includes sculptures meant to be touched, art meant to be worn by visitors, and multisensory installations. Its core principle is accessibility — art for all. It includes braille labels and a 5-6pm quiet hour on opening night for people with sensory issues; there will also be a “mobile sensory space” there for those who can get overstimulated.
The show includes a display of tactile works by blind Texas artist John Bramblitt in the Patron Gallery; he’ll also be doing a talk at VAC on September 27 at 6pm and will lead workshops the following day.
The show will be on view through October 23.
