NEWS: Tremont’s Kaiser Gallery Is Closing

Through 10/5

In a sad development, Tanya Kaiser, the proprietor of Tremont’s Kaiser Gallery and Cocktail Lounge, has announced that she will be closing her gallery following the run of the current show, Jonah Jacobs: Dreams Have Never Made My Bed, which ends on Saturday October 5.

Kaiser opened the gallery at an inauspicious time — in the middle of the COVID pandemic — and in four years has done 31 engaging and challenging solo shows and themed group exhibitions, showing the work of approximately 130 artists, including artists who push the boundaries of art with technology of various types. Her unique combo of gallery and cocktail bar made it a great place to hang out. In addition, the gallery has hosted a variety of events such as poetry open mics, drink-and-draw evenings, drag bingo and special-occasion parties.

In her press release, Kaiser said, “I want to take a moment to express my deep gratitude for the incredible opportunity to share Kaiser Gallery with all of you. The past four years have been an extraordinary journey—one filled with creativity, connection, and a sense of community. While the decision to close our doors was difficult, the mission and spirit of Kaiser Gallery will continue to thrive. I am incredibly proud of what we’ve achieved in such a short time.  This decision wasn’t taken lightly and I appreciate your support over these years.”

She adds that the nonprofit Kaiser Studios will remain active on social media and she is looking for new venues for her poetry open mics. Kaiser, who moved to Cleveland in 2019 without really knowing anyone, has quickly build a support network here. Rumor is we’re not losing her and that she is taking a job at another area arts organization. As far as the well-situated space at the corner of Professor and Jefferson, which has been a gardening shop and a vintage store, among other things, it’s unclear what it will be next.
