This year, the International Worldwide Bubble Artists are holding their convention in Cleveland — and that means Clevelanders will have a rare chance to see some of the best bubble artists from around the world during the two-day free, public Bubblefest!
Clevelanders are already familiar with Olympic-level bubble blowing from record-setting bubble artist Dr. U.R. Awesome (Gary Pearlman in real life) who performs at local events such as Walkabout Tremont and has hosted public attempts to set new Guinness World Records (he has set 15). So he’s become known as well in the international bubbling community of thousands of professional bubblers.
So he’s a large part of the reason why the annual gathering, which was in Berlin last year and London the previous year, is now coming to Cleveland. While the bubblers will gather among themselves for workshops, lectures and meetings, they’ll be sharing their skills at Edgewater Park Saturday September 7 and at Wade Oval on Sunday September 8. In addition to bubble-blowing performances by artists from all over the world, both events will include DJs, vendors, food trucks and a kids’ tent. Sunday’s event will feature a Bubble Foam Part finale from 3-4pm, but it won’t be over quite yet: Cleveland swamp rockers Cats on Holiday will play from 4-6. Both events are free.
And if you’re still not bubbled out after all that, on Sunday evening at 7pm, there’s a ticketed performance, World Class International Bubble Variety Show, featuring some of the top international bubblers. It takes place at Cleveland Heights High School. Get tickets here.
