Folk/Jazz Band Alla Boara Hosts Concert/Wine Tasting at BOP STOP

Sat 9/14 @ 8PM

One of northeast Ohio’s younger cohort of jazz musicians, drummer/percussionist Anthony Taddeo came up with a unique idea about five or six years ago: using Alan Lomax’s 1954 Smithsonian Folkways field recordings of nearly extinct traditional Italian folk tunes as a baseline and giving the music a contemporary twist, drawing on jazz, rock and world music. He enlisted a number of other musicians of that talented cohort to form Alla Boara, who now have two albums out, a third on the way, and plans to tour their music more extensively.

Meanwhile, they’ll be back at the BOP STOP, where they recorded their last album for a special evening of music and wine-tasting — Italian wines, of course! They’ve found four wines from the same areas that some of their music originated, including Sicily, Piedmont, Abruzzo and Emilia-Romagna, to enhance the evening (You can buy a ticket for both the music and wine-tasting or just the music if you’re not a drinker.)

The core band includes Taddeo, guitarist Daniel Bruce, trumpet player Tommy Lehman, bassist Ian Kinnaman and vocalist Amanda Powell. They’ll be joined for the evening by a pair of special guests: violinist Yaryna Tsarynska and accordionist/pianist Mark Micchelli.

The event will also be livestreamed on the BOP STOP’s YouTube channel.
