Experimental comics authors Lilly Thu Fierro and Generoso Fierro call themselves plasticgrapes. Under that name, they create and self-publish comics that draw on Lily’s background as a computational cognitive scientist at MIT and Generoso’s skills as a painter, film reviewer and film curator. With this wide-ranging background, they have diverse skills to draw on to explore new methods of storytelling.
Their triptych Vessel (2022), Inversion (2022) and Chua (2023) looked at how science and technology interact with the experiences of researchers and experimental subjects. Now they’ve published Absolute Simultaneity, which, they say, “deconstructs notions of time, measurement, and perception from both scientific and philosophical perspectives.”
They’ll be at Mac’s Backs Books on Coventry to talk about their creative process and their publications. This event is free and open to the public.
