Drag at its best is a terrific form of entertainment: flashy, fun, glamorous and theatrical, with well-conceived acts that can be hilarious and/or thought-provoking. If it terrifies some state legislators, well, that’s their loss. Perhaps they’re jealous that they’ll never be that hot.
The annual Drag Showcase at the Beachland Ballroom is put together by one of northeast Ohio’s most prominent drag artists, Veranda L’Ni, aka “Cleveland’s tallest drag queen,” who is also one of the performers on the bill. She’ll be joined by performers in a wide variety of styles, most well-known to area drag aficionados: Poundcake, Esai, Dr. Lady J, Onya Nurve, Monica Lexin, Debbie Does Drag, Sassy Sascha, King Kae and Deja D. Dellataro, with Rick Dawson emceeing a sure-to-be-high-energy and over-the-top evening.
