Dance to Live Music at the Bainbridge Swing Dance

Sat 9/7 @ 8PM

The monthly Bainbridge Swing Dances at the Family Life Center in Chagrin Falls are fun for all ages, for experienced dancers and those who’ve never been near a dance floor before. It’s a chance for people of all ages to socialize, learn some dance steps and hear some great live music.

The dances start with a lesson at 8pm so you can learn the basics or pick up some new steps if you’ve been to dances before — and experienced dancers are always willing to help out the beginners.

From 9-11pm, a live band takes the stage for two hours of dancing. And they book some of the region’s outstanding bands who play danceable (and listenable) music that crosses genres. This month that band is Burning River Swing, who are new to the area music scene, although the individual members — classically trained vocalist and experienced swing dancer Kara Scott, violinist Greg Smith, guitarist Steve Wright, bassist Ian Kinnaman and percussionist Owen Davis — are seasoned musicians who’ve performed with groups such as the Vindys, Alla Boara and Cereal Banter. Together they perform music inspired by the Parisian “hot jazz” of the 1930s, with a repertoire of standards by artists ranging from Elvis Presley to Edith Piaf to Louis Armstrong.

Come alone, come with a partner, come with your family — it doesn’t matter because in swing dancing, you’ll be changing partners all night long. No pre-registration or pre-payment is necessary but keep in mind they only take cash and checks for the $15 admission ($10 for kids 12 and under and $40 for the whole family).
