Czech Prog/Punk/Art Rock Band Rocks Up the Beachland

Thu 10/3 @ 8PM

There are a lot of really ordinary indie rock bands out there and probably 50 or more of them come through Cleveland in the average week. But, as good as some are, there’s little that distinguishes most of them.

Not so with Uz Jsme Doma (oosh-smeh-dough-ma) who hail from the Czech Republic and are based in Prague. There are probably plenty of ordinary indie rock bands there too, but Uz Jsme Doma isn’t one of them. Citing off-the-wall influences such as the Residents (with whom they’ve collaborated), the Damned and Cleveland’s own Pere Ubu. They’ve been described as a “progressive avant-garde kazz-punk band,” which incorporates a variety of mediums: a prominent Czech painting is a bon-performing member. Formed in 1985, they were once underground and illegal in the former Czechoslovakia, but since then they’ve travelled to nearly four dozen countries to play their unpredictable music with its unexpected changes like a jazz band gone berserk.

The band will be performing at the Beachland Tavern this week, with Cleveland’s New Orleans street-style brass-and-percussion band, Da Land Brass Band, opening. Get tickets here.
