Cleveland painter Rose Haserodt was red-hot for about a split second the year she graduated from the Cleveland Institute of Art in 2015. She won a basketful of art school awards and had a show that fall in an old industrial building in Little Italy that got big coverage, and rumor has it, all the work sold out for some impressive prices for a just-out-of-school artist. Then within two years, she dropped off the face of the earth: her website had no sign of her after 2017. Despite going to dozens of art event each year I’d never heard of her until her name came up last spring in a conversation about how publicity and the right connections can drive art prices. I thought maybe she’d quit art and gone to law school.
Now she’s resurfaced with a show at the prestigious Shaheen Gallery in Beachwood called Found in Translation, giving art lovers the chance to see what the fuss back in 2015 was about. The gallery isn’t offering much information about the show, but her style seems to have gotten harder-edged and more boldly colored since her 2015 event. It opens with a free, public reception Thursday September 19 and will be on view through November 17.

As respects the 2015 show in an old industrial building, it’s actually a legendary, well known building with a long pedigree: https://orderisda.org/culture/old-school/guardians-marker-unveiled-in-clevelands-little-italy-neighborhood/
