Cleveland Orchestra Kicks Off Season with Tchaikovsky, Schumann & Prokofiev

Thu 9/19 @ 7:30PM

Sun 9/22 @ 3PM

Finnish conductor Osmo Vänskä will be on the podium, replacing an under-the-weather Franz Welser-Möst , when the orchestra takes the stage at Severance Music Center to kick off its 2024-2025 season.

It will do so with a trio of classics, topping the program with Pyotr Tchaikovsky’s 1896 Symphony No. 6 (“Pathétique”), his final work first performed only nine days before he died. But first they’ll open with Sergei Prokofiev’s 1917 Symphony No. 1 (“Classical) which came at the other end of his career as the first of his seven symphonies, and Robert Schumann’s 1853 Violin Concerto, the only one he wrote. Taking the solo role in the concert will be German musician Frank Peter Zimmerman.
