Akron guitarist Tim Mirth and percussionist Paul Stranahan are two of Cleveland’s most adventurous musicians. Both of whom have played in numerous projects in a variety of genres including jazz, avant-garde music and metal. As the duo Night Terrors, they bring together all their various influences into open-ended compositions with lots of space for the improvisational explorations that fuel their music. Mirth tinkers with the sound of his guitar, using multiple effects, while Stranahan is known for expanding his drum kit with gongs and Tibetan singing bowls. They’ve described their sound as “a template of soundscapes and movements to take one through some kind of hazy, often scary, dream.” And because they use compositions only as a base for musical journeys, you’ll never heard the same show twice.
This weekend you can catch them at the Treelawn in the Waterloo Arts District. Get tickets here.
