Donald Erb

Sun 9/15 @ 7PM

The Cleveland Chamber Symphony will be performing a special concert this weekend at Baldwin Wallace University’s Gamble Auditorium. It’s titled “NEOSonicFall — A Sonic Tribute to Northeast Ohio’s Musical Giants” and features compositions by three celebrated local musicians who passed away recently

Donald Erb (1927-2008) was well-known in this area and well beyond it, serving as Distinguished Professor of Composition at the Cleveland Institute of Music, and spawning generations of younger composers to follow in his footsteps. The orchestra will play his 1974 “Spatial Fanfare for Brass Ensemble and Percussion” dedicated to the late Cleveland Orchestra resident conductor and principal keyboardist Louis Lane; it features brass players stationed around the auditorium.

They’ll also play “Cityscape Lights” by H. Leslie Adams (1932-2024) and “Legends for String Orchestra” by Loris Chobanian (1933-2023). The orchestra’s music director Steven Smith will conduct the evening which is free, although donations are much appreciated! You can also livestream the concert here.
