If you hang out at places such as the East 55th Street Marina or the boat launch at the north end of MLK Boulevard, you’ll see people of all ages and races lined up along the water with their fishing gear in almost every kind of weather. It’s not unusual to see grandfathers with their grandkids. Fishing is a big deal along Erie’s shores.

Each year, the Doan Brook Watershed Partnership hosts Family Fishing Day at Rockefeller Park Lagoon to get the next generation excited about this popular activity. Clevelad Metroparks instructors will be on hand to show beginners the ropes and offer some hints to the more experienced anglers, there’ll be free food, information from local organizations and activities for the whole family.

There’ll also be free fishing rods for kids, seniors and veterans with free Family Fishing Day T-shirts for kids and veterans, while supplies last. (The VA is across the street so it’s an easy jaunt for veterans.)

The event is open to all ages, experience and skill levels. You can register in advance or just drop by. It’s free. Go here.
