Cleveland’s Baseball Heritage Museum has enjoyed a surge of attention since it moved form a low-profile, usually closed location in the 5th Street Arcade to the building at Hough’s League Park where professional baseball was originally played in Cleveland. It’s packed with information and artifacts about the game and its diverse cast of players including women’s, Latin, Caribbean and Negro leagues, as well as the Industrial and Barnstormer leagues, educating visitors about the full range of people who contributed to the game.
It’s hosting a benefit to help support its work, called “Champions Awakened: A Tribute to the 1945 Buckeyes: Before the Barrier Broke: 1945, the Cleveland Buckeyes, and Black Ball.”
Guests will be treated to a presentation by history professor Dr. Louis Moore, who has written extensively about Black athletes, including Negro League baseball. Tickets include ballpark themed food stations with hotdogs, brats, nachos, popcorn and soft pretzels, and a donut wall, as well as an open bar.
