Akron guitarist Marc Lee Shannon moved to Los Angeles at age 19 to attend the Guitar Institute of Hollywood. He spent a decade in that city, performing with bands in the city’s roots rock/alt country scene. When he moved home in the mid 1990s, he hooked up with Michael Stanley and the Resonators and staued with the band until Michael death. He also played with Michael’s just-for-fun side project, the Midlife Chryslers.
Michael produced Shannon’s first solo album, 2007’s Any Ordinary Man, released on his Line Level label. It took a while for him to follow it up, but he did so in 2018 with Walk This Road, produced by Ryan Humbert of Akron’s alt-country Shootouts. He released his third Lucky 7 in 2022, also produced by Humbert. The title refers to his (then) seven years of sobriety, a cause he’s passionate about. He’s picking up the pace: this week his new album, Marc Lee Shannon & My Other Brothers come out. The title is a reference to the members of his latest ensemble, young hotshot guitarist Michael Weber, who fronts his own Michael Weber Show, and brothers bassist Kurt Anshutz of Easton Union and drummer Dean Anshutz of Red Wanting Blue.
