Northeast Ohio’s last county fair of the season leaves the best for last: The Great Geauga County Fair (its official name) at the fairgrounds in Burton is not only a sprawling monster, it’s also Ohio’s oldest county fair, now two years into its third century.

The fair runs for five big days this year, and they are packed with just about everything you’d expect from a county fair and more. There’s barn after barn filled with animals, tons of rides, so much unhealthy you’re your eyes will glaze over, and loads of entertainment ranging from magic and animal shows (including the Sea Lion Splash), cooking demonstrations, chicken flying and frog jumping contests, music from country to rock to the Great Geauga County Fair Band, 4H judging, youth fishing, a kiddie tractor pull, a rodeo, a truck and tractor pull, and much more. Even if you come back every day, you won’t be able to see it all.

How big is this fair? They have not one but TWO of those county fair staples, the demolition derby, on Thursday and Saturday. Buy your grandstand tickets early; people love this watch cars destroy each other.
