Scientist Talks About the State of the Great Lakes at the City Club

Fri 8/9 @ noon

The Great Lakes are one the greatest treasures on the U.S. rustbelt region and southern Canada. While regions of the country such as the southwest struggle to find water for the growing population and their agriculture business, the Great Lakes are one of the world’s largest sources of freshwater, an essential resource for human life as well as for biodiversity.

The World Wildlife Fund is a leading world conservation nonprofit dedicated to addressing threats to biodiversity including protecting freshwater. Jeff Opperman is a Global Freshwater Lead Scientist with WWF, tasked with developing conservation strategies and fueling freshwater programs and projects with real science.

Opperman will be at the City of Club to give the 2024 State of the Great Lakes talk, sharing how important protecting the lakes are to the region’s people and economy, and how what we do here can impact the world.

The talk will also be livestreamed at the City Club’s website, starting at noon. If you hve questions, you can text them to 330-541-5794.
