Raccoon County Music Festival Brings Folk & Country to Burton for the 47th Year

Sat 8/10 @ 10AM-8PM

Geauga County may not be 100% country anymore — it’s considered “exurban” but it’s still pretty rural. So it’s a fitting place to host the Raccoon County Music Festival now in its 47th year. (For those not in the know, “Geauga” is an indigenous word for “raccoon.”) It’s focused on folk, country and traditional music.

As usual, this family-friendly event offers a day of music listening and music making for all ages. Gates open at 10, and the first performer, country artist Susan Struck, who performs classic country by artists such as Loretta Lynn and Patsy Cline, takes the stage at 11. At noon, Terry Lee Goffee, who has performed his Johnny Cash tribute act, around the country and in Europe, performs.

The afternoon brings the Bent String Band with an educational talk about kids and guitars at 1; A.J. Knepper with a performance and educational talk about music history at 2; the Young & Blue Band with an educational performance about banjo and bluegrass at 4pm, and Ron Yarman performing acoustic folk and country at 5. And from 10am-2pm in the pavilion, local boys the Raccoon County Ramblers will be holding forth. Spirit Bound will conclude the performances with folk and gospel at 6pm. But still around — the open jam session starts at 7pm, so bring your instrument and take part.

It takes place at the Century Village Museum in Burton. Tickets are available here.
