Second only to St. Patrick’s Day, the 11th Congressional District Community Caucus Labor Day Parade is one of the biggest parades in the area. Founded by Congressman Lou Stokes 52nd years ago, his successors, Stephanie Tubbs Jones, Marcia Fudge and now Shontel Brown, have kept the tradition going with the theme “Empowering Our People.”

Everyone who is anyone will be lined up when the parade steps off at 147th and Kinsman. Every candidate for any office is there — look for a plethora of judicial candidates vying for a big presence — as well as political organizations, local businesses, dance schools, drill teams, high school bands, Black fraternities and sororities, government agencies, advocacy groups, nonprofits, labor unions and more, passing out literature and candy. Watch out for kids in sugar shock!

The parade follows a long and packed route all the way to the reviewing stand at Luke Easter Park, where Grand Marshall Congresswoman Shontel Brown and other officials will be cheering on the arriving delegations. Afterwards everyone heads into the park where there’ll be food trucks, vendors, tables from local organizations, and a kids’ area. It’s free to attend.
