Bocce Challenge Cup Is Back in Wickliffe for the 40th Year

Fri 8/23-Sun 8/24

The Wickliffe Italian-American Club will be filled with the clacking of bocce balls all weekend as the Cleveland Challenge Cup of Bocce returns to northeast Ohio for the 40th year.

If you’re a bocce fan, you can overdose on the sport as 120 teams from Ohio, Pennsylvania, Connecticut, Florida, California and Canada compete for more than $25,000 in prize money. (Both of last year’s top winners, in the Open and Women’s divisions, turned out to be from northeast Ohio.) If you’re not, you can still come to enjoy a big dose of Italian culture, food and fun all weekend.

The event kicks off with an opening ceremony of Friday at 3:45pm, including the national anthems of the U.S., Canada and Italy. Play starts immediately afterwards. All weekend there’ll be music on the covered pavilion stage, and on Saturday, cultural Italian activities from noon-3pm. On Sunday aka Family Day, entertainment includes the Rick Smith Jr Magic Show and Jungle Terry & Friends Exotic Animal Show. Italian food and a full bar will be available all weekend.
