Beachwood Native Marc Cohn Comes Home to Perform at Music Box

Thu 8/22 @ 7:30PM

Beachwood singer/songwriter Marc Cohn transferred from Oberlin to UCLA, which turned out to be a great career move: his self-titled 1991 album went platinum on the strength of his massive hit “Walking in Memphis.” He won the Grammy for Best New Artist. He never had another hit of that magnitude, peaking at the beginning of his career.

But that compelling song, which explored the life-changing spiritual power of music, has had a long afterlife. His output since then has been sparse. He released two more albums in the 1990s and Join the Parade in 2007, followed by a cover songs collection Listening Booth 1970 in 2010, featuring songs released in 1970; it proved his most popular release since his first and in 2019, collaborating with the Blind Boys of Alabama on Work to Do, which features three studio tracks and seven live ones.

Still, despite his limited recording output, he’s got plenty of strong material to fill a show such as his upcoming one at the music Box. Get tickets here.
