AIDS Taskforce of Greater Cleveland Goes Hillbilly for Its Annual Musical Fundraiser

Mon 8/26 @ 7PM

Once again, for the 20th year, the AIDS Taskforce of Greater Cleveland is hosting its entertaining benefit musical, taking place at Near West Theatre.

This one should be pure camp, based on one of the corniest and most dated sitcoms from the 1960s: The Beverly Hillbillies. If you’re not familiar with the premise, it involves a family of “hillbillies” who move to Beverly Hills after striking oil and getting rich. Culture clash ensues, along with hilarity.

The show’s characters provide the basis for 2019’s The Beverly Hillbillies, The Musical, with book by Amanda Rogers and music and lyrics by Gregg Opelka. A live band will provide the music and a cast of outstanding local performers, including several Actor’s Equity professionals, will be bringing it alive onstage. Needless to say, fake “hillbilly” JD Vance isn’t among them. From what we’ve seen, we think he’d be a terrible actor anyway.

There’ll be refreshments and a raffle in the lobby starting. At 7;  showtime is 8pm. Get your tickets here.
